Marketing, SEO and Traditional , the real costs

So you have an idea, a website and staff so lets get some customers ; what are your choices SEO , Magazines, Posters , Billboards..what do these choices cost and which is best.

Most businesses I come across are fearful of advertising , mainly the cost and put it off , QED slower awareness of the business and slower revenue growth , higher stress levels normally !

But no advertising means no growth so everyone should put some money aside for it – treat it as essential, not optional.

These are some simple do’s and dont’s

  • A simple 10 page website you should pay no more than £2k for , if you are , contact me and I will point you to a company who can help
  • SEO is around £300-£400 per month dependant on geographical reach , complexity of products and services on offer
  • SEO: can be switched off and on accommodating seasonal businesses ; start-ups; those wanting an extra push on sales
  • SEO can be good value vs Facebook [ pence per click] [also you are targeting everyone in your search criteria , not just Facebook likes
  • This means you are facing customers looking to buy , not passive customer base
  • Get everyone who visits you to check in when at your premises , free Facebook exposure – we like that
  • SEO initially needs to be really [ and I mean really] focused
  • Don’t try to advertise everything you do to everyone in the UK: start local and move out in circles from your home base
  • Traditional marketing can be expensive [ glossy Cheshire Life etc £1500-£2000 for modest one month adverts] be sure this is where your customers are … …most readers of the later magazine probably wont be buying industrial components .. aka Cheshire Wives read it, probably not Cheshire Husbands 🙂
  • Billboards have fantastic footfall numbers and be as little as £300 per month; Plan for £1000 including artwork , set up and 12 weeks on a large board outside major commuter points. Some have up to 1.5m viewings per month- we like !!
  • Anyone who rings you with a magazine publication offer, local business magazine etc – ask yourself do I read that when I want to know about my industry. Probably not .. ditto when you were a customer of your service or product where did you go to find people , referral , LinkedIn … your customers will be doing the same

I am not offering the above as a complete marketing solution but ; if you’re new to this – it will get you on your way.

As always, mail me if it isn’t clear or you need a bit more information
